A pair of owl eyes stare out of this image from NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope of the galactic group called Arp 194. Nearly everywhere we look in the universe we see galaxies. And even though galaxies are far apart, gravity pulls them together. Eventually they collide or interact.
Some see tadpole. Others see a flying dragon. I see a fish with a long flowing tail. But astronomers looking through earth-based telescopes saw a trumpeting elephant.
On our starry safari, we’ve encountered fish, bugs, birds and other eyes in the dark. Coming out of the darkness next is an elephant; or a part of an elephant. The Elephant Trunk Nebula is home to new stars. It’s a nursery where young stars start to glow on their own.
