The Gingerbread Man can run but he can’t hide, even on Mars. In this image from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter’s HiRISE camera, we find the shape of a cookie-cutout person in a Martian dunefield.

Explore the image. These dunes are found on the floor of a small crater. Most of them lie in parallel lines. Notice how the dunes radiate away from the larger dunes, like spokes of a wheel. Also, notice the color of the sand that makes up the dunes. On Mars, sand grains are made up of the dark mineral basalt. While on Earth, sand is mostly made up of the lighter-colored quartz sand.
